Job Title: Performance Modelling Engineer Location: East Midlands (Fully Onsite) Employment Type: Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week Industry: Clean Energy / Propulsion / Power Systems Overview We're seeking a Performance Modelling Engineer to take ownership of high-level system modelling at the concept stage for advanced power and propulsion systems. You'll be responsible for developing 0D models to support early design decisions and trade-offs - including efficiency, mass, and power output. This is a fully onsite, hands-on technical role suited to someone who can work independently while engaging closely with multi-disciplinary teams. A background in thermodynamics, fluid systems, or power generation is ideal. Aerospace experience is welcome but not essential. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage system-level performance models for early-stage concepts Produce and maintain version-controlled performance decks aligned with design updates Analyse performance predictions and identify areas for system optimisation Inform system sizing and architecture decisions through modelling and trade studies Collaborate with engineering teams to create simplified models and support design reviews Provide data and insights to support both technical and commercial decision-making Work with customers to manage input data and communicate performance implications Generate pragmatic, first-principle models for early concept evaluation Contribute to the development of automated, robust simulation tools and modelling processes Support validation of performance models in collaboration with R&D, CAE, and Test teams Assist in developing system-level models (e.g. full-vehicle or aircraft applications) Document model results and prepare technical reports for specifications and forecasts Skills & Experience Essential: BEng, BSc or equivalent in engineering, physics or a related discipline Strong experience in system-level modelling using tools such as MATLAB Sound understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or energy systems Ability to build pragmatic, simplified models based on first principles Desirable: Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership Sector experience in aerospace, automotive, or energy industries Familiarity with model automation, toolchain development or simulation roadmapping
