Offer description

Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist – Memory Service Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 28 May 2026

The population covered by the service is 205,000 of which 35,714 are older people. The service operates a largely functional approach to service delivery. Our goal is to become the gold standard for the delivery of mental health care for older people in the Country.

The service provides Community Mental Health service through a full‑fledged CMHT, full‑fledged Memory services and one hospital liaison service as described below. If patients from this area require inpatient care, they are admitted to the purpose‑built unit at West Park Hospital in Darlington or Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough if they have functional illness, or to Auckland Park hospital if they present with Organic illness. Please note that the Consultant for this post would have NO responsibilities towards the inpatient unit. Please note the Consultant for this post does not have clinical responsibilities for the Acute Hospital Liaison or Richmondshire part of CMHT services on a day‑to‑day basis, all of which have access to dedicated Consultant input.

Main duties of the job The Consultant will not hold a case load but be expected to work to a clinical leadership model of consultation. It is expected that 1–2 new referrals and up to 4 reviews per week would be needed for Hambleton CMHT. The memory service would expect 2 diagnostic appointments per clinic as a minimum. The service works in a CLS model whereby diagnoses are formulated through the team meeting and then can be delivered by other clinicians where appropriate. There are currently no CTO patients in the CMHT catchment area.
