Offer description

The Podiatry Service in Fife is delighted to be able to offer an exciting and innovative pathway into the Podiatry profession.

The Pre-Registration Podiatry; Accessible Recruitment & Employment (PREPARE) Project provides a unique opportunity to earn a competitive salary completing the BSc (Hons) Podiatry degree with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) while working as part of our team here in NHS Fife.

This employment is offered on the successful undertaking of a 4 year training period and as such successful candidates must meet the eligibility criteria to undertake the graduate degree as offered by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).

With GCU's flexible entry policies, we welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. Relevant work experience, prior learning or professional credits may be considered if you do not have the typical academic qualifications. (Please ensure to fill out Assessment Form B with details of this as part of your application). What matters most is your potential, your motivation, and your commitment to delivering high quality patient care.

PREPARE has been designed to widen access to Podiatry, recognising that traditional university routes may not be possible for everyone. Whether due to work, family, financial commitments, or an inability to relocate, this programme removes many of the barriers that can limit access to degree-level study.

As a PREPARE Trainee (employed On Annex 21 Terms), You Will Be Supported Throughout a Four Year Training Period Combining Academic Learning With Hands On Experience

Up to 3 days per week with GCU hybrid delivery of on campus and online teaching and learning

2 days per week working within NHS Fife Podiatry during term time

5 days per week fully integrated into the service during non term periods

This blended approach ensures you develop strong clinical insight, practical skills, and real confidenceall while contributing to the delivery of high quality patient care across Fife.

Successful completion of the degree and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) will lead to appointment into a substantive Band 5 Podiatrist post within our service.

The podiatry service provides a comprehensive prevention and early intervention service to the population of Fife. This is delivered throughout the region from a network of Community Clinics and Hospitals, in people's own homes or in homely settings (Care Homes).

We aim to deliver high quality care to patients and their carers through triage, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of foot and lower limb and conditions. Our service is patient centred encouraging self care when appropriate and working together to develop individual management plans where these are indicated. Our service focuses on saving limbs and the management and treatment of complex foot and ankle musculoskeletal conditions.

You'll be joining a friendly, experienced team dedicated to improving outcomes for the people of Fife. Our clinical facilities offer excellent learning environments, and you'll be supported every step of the way as you develop your skills and professional identity.

We Welcome Applications From Individuals Who Are

Highly motivated and enthusiastic about a career in healthcare

Strong communicators with good problem solving skills

Able to demonstrate care, compassion and professionalism

Passionate about making a difference in the wellbeing of our Fife communities

If this sounds like you, we would be delighted to receive your application. It is essential to complete Assessment Form B additional question as part of your application submission.

There will be an open event at the Podiatry Department, located in the Carnegie Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, on Tuesday 31st March from 5:007:00 PM.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or 'going rate'. Further information on these criteria can be foundhere.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsoredBEFORE submitting your application form.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.

We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
