AtkinsRéalis has recently been named as a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework to help understand the impact of climate change and risk of flooding for communities in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework AtkinsRéalis will provide survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological and other professional services to help identify and plan for climate events. This is a significant programme that will help the Environment Agency understand better the impact of climate change and reduce the risk of flooding to communities across England, including the vital response required to support communities that have been flooded. The Mapping and Modelling Framework underpins the work of the Environment Agency, enabling it to make informed investment decisions based on data and evidence.

Organisation Context
AtkinsRéalis is a major engineering, environmental and design consultancy. We offer opportunities for talented consultants to work on a wide variety of projects at a range of scales. We have ongoing projects in flood risk management with a lot of work coming from our frameworks for the Environment Agency and numerous local authorities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as major projects like HS2 and Sizewell C. We undertake projects in natural flood management, flood forecasting, flood alleviation and helping water companies with elements of their water resources and water quality issues. We also work internationally with commitments across the globe. You will be working as part of an international team with colleagues in India and other regions.
Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects, including 1D and 2D models for rivers, surface water and sewers.
* Address required funding arrangements for public sector projects and collaborate with engineers, ecologists, environmental scientists and other technical experts.
* Develop opportunities and lead on international projects through our overseas portfolio; collaborate with staff in Canada, USA, India, Africa and Asia Pacific.
* Develop strong client relationships, lead on project delivery, mentor junior team members and contribute to business development and work-winning.
* Produce high-quality client-facing reports and lead hydraulic modelling and data analysis to support projects.
Qualifications and Experience
* A degree in Geography, Science or Civil Engineering; ideally an MSc or further postgraduate qualification or notable experience.
* Chartered or Fellow status with CIWEM or ICE.
* Extensive experience in flood risk management with demonstrated project delivery; experience in flood risk analyses for planning, development and design.
* Leadership experience in developing and leading technical teams; ability to mentor staff.
* Strong decision-making ability based on available information.
* Technical skills: project management with commercial/contractual/financial management and project programming, or proficiency in 1D-2D modelling using Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS; GIS familiarity with ArcGIS, MapInfo or QGIS; FEH hydrological assessment desirable; scour assessments and surface water/groundwater interactions knowledge desirable.
Role Expectations
* Either a dedicated project manager or a technical lead, with responsibilities including scoping services, supervising junior resources, progressing multiple projects, financial/change control, report writing, presenting, and quality assurance.
* Produce reports, support project managers and directors, and lead bidding activities; promote the organisation’s capabilities through industry credentials.
* Contribute to the Flood Risk Team’s development through active involvement in the technical network.
