Main duties of the job
As an Interventional Radiology Nurse, you will play a crucial role in the assessment and preparation of patients for a variety of radiological procedures. You will provide exceptional care to patients undergoing both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in our state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology rooms, hybrid theatre, and Interventional Radiology Day Unit (IRDU). Your responsibilities will include:
7. Pre-procedure assessment and preparation
8. Intra-procedure care under local anaesthetic or sedation
9. Post-procedure recovery and monitoring

10. Angiogram/Angioplasty
11. Embolisation
12. Fistulaplasty
13. Vascular Access
14. Nephrostomies
15. Ascitic Drains
16. Biopsies
17. Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy (RIGGs)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties to include but not be limited to:
18. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines
19. Support and provide patient education and health promotion
20. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
21. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
22. Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
23. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
24. Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation
25. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation

Qualifications
Essential criteria
26. Appropriate NMC Registration
27. Diploma in Nursing
28. Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced Band 5 nurses
Desirable criteria
29. Degree
30. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards
Knowledge

31. Willingness to perform scrub duties.
32. Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
33. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
