About The Role

* Role: Horticultural Apprentice
* Location: Bengal St Depot, Chorley
* Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Fixed term (24 months)
* Salary: £23,080 - £23,817
* Closing Date: 9 November 2025

We are currently looking to recruit a Horticultural apprentice who has a strong work ethic, is team orientated and highly motivated, with excellent communication skills.

You will be enrolled on the level 2 Horticultural apprenticeship and, with support from your educational tutor, will complete assignment and portfolio work to achieve the level 2 qualification. At the end of your apprenticeship you will have achieved a nationally recognised qualification which will enable you to progress in your career.

When the apprenticeship is complete you will move into a Streetscene Operative role (provided you meet all the relevant criteria).


What you’ll be getting up to

* Carry out general horticultural maintenance tasks including sweeping, strimming, hedge maintenance, shrub bed maintenance, clearing leaves and litter, loading and unloading of barrows, trailers, vehicles, etc.
* To undertake an agreed programme of learning that leads to gaining a recognised qualification as part of an apprenticeship framework/standard.
* To actively participate in own development plan under the supervision of the Team Leader, Supervisor and the assessor from the college.
* To work safely and competently in a site-based environment and to always adhere to the Health and Safety guidelines.
* To undertake and take part in other duties, meetings, toolbox talks, training and events as requested by the manager that aids learning and development for your role.
* Use of powered and non powered machinery under supervision.
* To assist in ensuring that all daily operator checks on plant machinery and vehicles (oil/water/grease/tyre checks etc) are completed daily.
* Report any faults and defects to their team supervisor and workshop using the appropriate documentation.
