Contract Scotland is seeking an experienced Planner to work with our client's team supporting Scottish Water's critical infrastructure programme. This is an excellent opportunity to work on essential water infrastructure projects that are making a real difference to communities across Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Management & Development
* Develop, manage, and maintain robust construction programmes using Primavera P6 software
* Produce detailed schedules for all works associated with design, procurement, and construction phases
* Create and update programme baselines, tracking progress and identifying critical path activities
* Monitor programme performance and prepare regular reports for project teams and senior management
NEC4 Contract Compliance
* Ensure full compliance with NEC4 Clause 31 (programme requirements) and Clause 32 (programme revisions)
* Support contract change control processes and assess the impact of compensation events on programme and costs
* Collaborate with the Project Manager on early warning procedures and risk management as required under NEC4
* Maintain accurate records and documentation to support contractual requirements
Collaboration & Reporting
* Support monthly programme updates and reporting to clients, project teams, and stakeholders
* Attend and contribute to planning meetings, progress reviews, and client presentations
* Collaborate effectively with project managers, site engineers, design teams, and subcontractors to track progress and identify risks
* Liaise with resource leads and delivery teams to ensure programme alignment with project objectives
Risk & Change Management
* Identify, assess, and communicate programme risks, issues, and opportunities
* Manage and maintain risk and opportunity registers
* Assess the impact of changes, delays, and approvals on the programme
* Provide clear analysis of programme variances and recommend mitigation strategies
Essential Requirements
Experience & Knowledge
* Proven experience as a Planner on construction or infrastructure projects, ideally within the water, utilities, or civil engineering sectors
* Strong understanding of NEC4 contract forms, particularly clauses relating to programme management (Clauses 31/32) and compensation events
* Experience working on projects with multiple stakeholders and complex delivery requirements
* Demonstrable experience managing resources, subcontractors, and project schedules from initial planning through to handover
Technical Skills
* Proficiency in Primavera P6 planning software (essential)
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
* Understanding of critical path analysis, programme sequencing, and resource leveling

* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
* Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
* Collaborative team player with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
* Proactive approach to identifying and resolving programme issues
Desirable Requirements
* Experience working on water infrastructure, wastewater, or utilities projects
* Knowledge of Scottish Water or CWA standards and procedures
* Familiarity with contract change control and compensation event management processes
* NEC4 accredited professional or willingness to obtain accreditation
* APM (Association for Project Management) or similar project management qualifications
* Experience with collaborative delivery models and joint venture environments
* Previous exposure to CDM regulations and construction phase planning
