ABOUT US University Arms is a 192-bedroom design-led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge, and beautiful 272 square metre wood panelled Ballroom. Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. For 180 years, the Hotel was added to, updated, and modernised in line with the age; however, it was the reopening in 2018 after a four-year £80m full renovation that really positioned the Hotel. It is now Cambridge's 'go to’ destination, alluring visitors with the promise of a sense of modern luxury. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING As Head Housekeeper, you will lead and manage the housekeeping team to ensure the hotel is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, comfort, and presentation. You will oversee daily operations, staff scheduling, training, and inventory management, ensuring every guest experiences impeccable service and a welcoming environment. THE DUTIES At University Arms, being a Head Housekeeper involves a lot more than just keeping our stunning hotels and bedrooms clean and looking beautiful - although of course that is extremely important! Lead, motivate, and manage the housekeeping team to deliver consistent, high-quality service. Develop and implement cleaning schedules, standards, and procedures across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, linen, and equipment, ordering as needed. Conduct regular inspections of rooms and public areas to ensure hotel standards are met. Train, coach, and develop housekeeping staff to enhance skills and performance. Collaborate with other departments to address guest requests, complaints, and operational needs. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations. Take ownership of guest feedback related to housekeeping and implement improvements. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN YOU Previous experience as a Head Housekeeper or Deputy Head Housekeeper in a 4*/5* luxury hotel (Min 3 years). Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high standards. Effective communication and organisational skills. Knowledge of cleaning methods, hygiene standards, and health & safety regulations. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Be able to work to the needs of the business; this isn’t a Monday–Friday 9 am to 5:30 pm role.
