Substance Use Practitioner – Surrey Probation Service

Role Overview
The role of Substance Use Practitioner complements the existing probation team, managing a caseload of young adults (18‑25 years) and addressing substance misuse issues to reduce re‑offending risk.
Main Duties and Accountabilities
* Offer initial triage service and assessment for referred young adults.
* Provide accurate information on assessment and therapeutic interventions available through Catch22 SYPSUS, and contribute to assessment and care planning.
* Provide sustained support to a pre‑defined caseload of young adults and act as a link worker between Surrey Probation and Catch22 SYPSUS for integrated provision.
* Consult and guide probation colleagues, assess risk levels associated with substance use, and provide or signpost substance use interventions.
* Collaborate with SYPSUS colleagues to deliver training and workshops, identifying and developing resources for professionals working with young adults and substance use issues.
Qualifications
* Relevant qualification in youth work studies, counselling, health and social care, or equivalent therapeutic delivery experience.
* Experience delivering specialist therapeutic substance misuse interventions with young adults, and ability to assess and identify early indicators of risk.
* Access to a car, full driving licence, valid MOT, and business insurance.

Contract: Permanent
Flexibility: Outreach and engagement role within the Surrey community (main office in Leatherhead).
Driving Licence & Vehicle: An up‑to‑date licence, vehicle, MOT, and business insurance required. Out‑of‑hours work, evenings and weekends, and occasional travel across the UK may be necessary.
