What the role is about
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone looking to develop their tractor operation and estate management skills in a conservation setting, with opportunities to further develop their warden and machinery management operations. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead on delivering machinery works, reserve infrastructure maintenance and arable operations across RSPB's Wiltshire reserves.
Role details
You will be joining a small friendly team based at RSPB Winterbourne Downs set in the picturesque rolling downlands close to Stonehenge and Salisbury Plain. Working alongside the Warden and Estate Operation Manager, this will involve using your practical skills for cultivating nesting plots for stone-curlew & lapwing, undertake hedge and scrub management, topping grassland for electric fences and footpaths. Other work includes using power tools such as brush-cutters, herbicide spraying, repairing fences & built infrastructure, and overseeing machinery maintenance.
What we need from you
Essential skills include:
* Knowledge and experience of practical habitat and estate management.
* Experience of operating and maintaining machinery, equipment and infrastructure. Particularly relevant are use of tractor and cultivation implements, hedge-cutter, tractor mounted or drawn sprayer, brush-cutters and chainsaw.
* Lantra or equivalent qualification in ATV, chainsaw, tractor, brushcutter, pesticides (PA1, PA2, PA6).
* 4x4 driving and Trailer towing experience.
* Full driving licence valid for use in the UK.
Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience:
* Livestock management.
* Experience of workshop, farmyard and building maintenance.
* Experience in managing volunteers.
* An interest and experience of bird and vegetation surveying.
Additional information
* This role will involve lone working and working in remote locations.
* This role will require occasional early morning and evening working.
