London
Penguin Random House
Press officer
£36,000 - £42,000 a year
Posted: 21 September
Offer description

Penguin Press publishes serious and ground-breaking non-fiction across our Allen Lane, Pelican and Particular Books imprints, with bestselling authors such as Naomi Klein, Claudia Rankine, James Rebanks, Carlo Rovelli, Lea Ypi, Ha-Joon Chang and Greta Thunberg. Press is also home to the world-famous Penguin Classics library. We're looking for a hard-working and creative Press Officer to join our team on a full-time and permanent basis.

The role

As Press Officer, you will be responsible for planning and implementing comprehensive publicity campaigns for a range of non-fiction, poetry and Penguin Classics titles, from launching new voices to promoting established writers. You will have direction from senior publicity colleagues and will collaborate with other publicists on campaigns. You will liaise between internal departments, from marketing and sales to rights and editorial, and communicate effectively with authors and agents, and other external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

* Create strategic campaigns that reach the desired audience and drive sales.
* Communicating and managing authors and agents with a high level of author care.
* Liaising with editorial, marketing and sales departments.
* Drafting press materials; creating targeted mailings lists; placing features, interviews and reviews across broadcast, print and online media.
* Planning and scheduling events and festival appearances.
* Accompanying authors on press tours.
* Building relationships with journalists, event's organisers and key influencers in the industry.
* Manage your campaigns end to end with an overview of current trends and best strategic approach for promoting our books.
* You will be responsible for managing budgets: estimating costs and post campaign analysis to identify exciting new avenues for promotion.
* Providing acquisition feedback from a PR angle
* Communicate effectively with authors and agents, including presenting campaign plans and results
* Coordinate international press requests for group companies
* This role involves regular out of hours work on weekends and evenings in order to attend events.

What you'll bring

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive team player with good communication, organisation and time management skills. You don't need to have come from a publishing background; you may have worked as a Publicity Assistant or Press Officer in a PR agency, or within the arts, creative or media industries.

Our perfect candidate will have some knowledge of publicity having supported on media and events campaigns, and are ready to make the next step, working across non-fiction, Penguin Classics and poetry publicity. Importantly, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment and come to work eager and ready to learn.

Application instructions

Please apply with your CV and cover letter outlining why you are the right candidate for the role by 11:59pm on 25th of September 2025.

Salary

Circa £31,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Hybrid working

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will be in the office for a minimum of 3 days a week.
