Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: Up to £45,000 plus Company Car or Car Allowance
About the Role
Mainstay Recruitment are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of delivering key Billable Works projects across the Defence estate. These projects support the operational effectiveness of military sites and their occupants, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
You will be responsible for managing the full project lifecyclefrom initial requirement identification through to design, tendering, delivery, and final handover. The role involves working closely with MOD stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to ensure all projects meet strict compliance, safety, quality, and sustainability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of small to medium-scale projects from scoping to handover
Engage with MOD and DIO stakeholders to define requirements and develop effective project briefs
Manage design development, tender preparation, and contractor selection
Ensure value for money, quality, and compliance across all works
Monitor on-site activity to enforce Health, Safety & Environmental standards
Oversee contractor performance and ensure suitable qualifications and RAMS are in place
Manage project budgets, risks, and schedules in alignment with operational priorities
Maintain accurate documentation in internal systems such as Maximo and SharePoint
Support sustainability objectives, including carbon reduction targets
What You'll Need
Proven project management experience in facilities, construction, or estates management
Strong background in managing contractors, budgets, and health & safety requirements
Experience in supervising site operations and multiple workstreams
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Problem-solving ability and confidence in decision-making under pressure
Relevant technical qualification in Building, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
Health & Safety management qualification (e.g. SMSTS or equivalent)
