Support Role - Nurture Class

SEMH / ASC Specialist School | Blackburn

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children who need it most? We are seeking a caring, resilient, and dedicated Support Practitioner / Teaching Assistant / Support Worker to join a nurture class within our specialist SEMH / ASC school in Blackburn.

You will be supporting a small, focused group of up to five pupils within a primary-style model, where building trust and providing stability are the keys to success. This role is ideal for someone who understands that for many children, emotional regulation is the essential first step towards academic engagement.

The Role

Small Group Support: Work within a nurture setting of up to 5 children, ensuring every child receives the attention they need.

Curriculum Delivery: Partner with the class teacher to deliver a primary-based curriculum tailored to individual needs.

Holistic Support: Provide emotional, behavioural, and learning assistance throughout the school day.

Regulation & Skills: Help pupils develop emotional regulation, communication, and social skills.

Environment Building: Create and maintain a calm, predictable, and safe space for learning.

Specialist Strategies: Implement nurture-based, trauma-informed, and autism-aware approaches.

Collaborative Care: Work alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to support EHCP outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have proven experience supporting children with SEMH and/or ASC.

Possess a calm, patient, and emotionally resilient temperament.

Demonstrate strong behaviour support skills using positive and relational approaches.

Feel confident working with primary-aged learning styles and creative curriculum delivery.

Be a proactive team player with excellent communication skills.

Hold a deep commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.

This is a rewarding role for someone who believes in "nurture first, learning second" and is committed to helping children feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive.
