About Heron Court
Heron Court is a large, welcoming care home offering up to 59 placements for respite, residential, nursing, specialist dementia care, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, mental health support, step-down care, palliative care, and more .
Located at 101 Village Street, Old Normanton, Derby, Derbyshire, DE23 8DF, the home is about 1.6 miles from Derby city centre.
The Role
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in our catering team, helping to deliver nutritious, appetising meals that meet dietary needs and care standards.
Typical tasks include:
1. Assisting in meal preparation and basic cooking under the guidance of the Head Chef
2. Ensuring food is prepared and served to high standards of quality and safety
3. Serving meals to service users while honouring dietary requirements
4. Maintaining a clean, organised kitchen—including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and proper waste disposal
5. Managing kitchen supplies—receiving deliveries and storing items correctly
6. Following hygiene and food safety standards in line with company and regulatory requirements
7. Assisting with the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment
8. Supporting the catering team with additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations
9. This is a part-time role of 3 shifts per week, with set hours of 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Shifts are spread across 7 days, including weekends, on a fair and rotating basis. Rotas are issued 4 weeks in advance to support work–life balance

About You
You’ll need:
10. Some experience in a kitchen or catering role, ideally in a healthcare or care home environment
11. A basic understanding of food hygiene and safety, with a commitment to maintaining cleanliness
12. The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting, managing your time effectively
13. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others
14. A compassionate outlook and a service user-centred mindset, dedicated to supporting well-being
15. Flexibility and a proactive attitude to help with various tasks across the kitchen
Experience in care or catering isn’t essential and everyone receives training from our expert trainers.
All roles require an enhanced DBS check, and Rushcliffe Care covers the cost.
