About Lypo

At Lypo, we are redefining how chemicals are made, developing programmable small molecule manufacture using waste-derived feedstocks. This technology leverages the nature and plasticity of microbial metabolism, combined with AI-engineered enzymes, to create sustainable, cost-effective ingredients for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

Lypo is looking to grow rapidly, we are building a multidiscipline team with a culture of cross-pollination and shared learning. We are hiring an Analytical Scientist to lead the isolation, identification and characterisation of complex biomolecules. You will be one of the founding employees, meaning you will play a critical role in shaping our culture and workflows.

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Analytical Scientist to develop and implement high-throughput methods for chemical analysis (GC-MS, HPLC) of complex biomolecules. You will be critical to the team, ensuring datasets can be gathered and implemented quickly for AI training. We value an interdisciplinary mindset; whatever your background, you must be eager to work across traditional boundaries to solve challenges.

2. Data throughput: Maintain high-level of sample processing across several analytical machines

3. Biomolecule Characterisation: Method development for isolation of complex isomers, including derivatisation and further analysis by NMR.

4. Equipment Care: Develop and implement S.O.P.s for analytical equipment care and upkeep.

5. Reporting & Communication: Communicate effectively with fortnightly research updates and regular group meetings.

6. Mentorship: Support the development of others across disciplines, skillsets and levels, with regular participation in skills training and problem sessions.

Professional Experience: PhD in Chemistry + 2 years Industry Experience, or MSc in Chemistry + 5 years industry experience.

Required Skillset: Deep expertise in chemical analysis of complex molecules, with solid understanding of chromatography and analytical techniques (GC-MS, HPLC and NMR).

Nice-to-Have: Experience with chemical synthesis. Any experience working outside of science.

Salary & Flexibility

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000, 1 year contract
