Job Description Radiology Consultant (Nuclear Medicine) Overview We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and compassionate Radiology Consultant (Nuclear Medicine) to join a dynamic medical team at an NHS Trust in Yorkshire. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of cutting-edge radiology and nuclear medicine services within a supportive and inclusive environment. Responsibilities As a Radiology Consultant with expertise in Nuclear Medicine, your primary duties will include: Leading and delivering nuclear medicine imaging, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and other advanced modalities. Providing expert clinical opinions and advice to referring clinicians regarding nuclear medicine procedures. Overseeing and reporting diagnostic imaging studies and therapeutic nuclear medicine cases efficiently and accurately. Actively participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to contribute to imaging-based decision-making in patient management. Leading quality assurance and safety initiatives, and ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards, including compliance with IR(ME)R regulations. Offering supervision, mentorship, and educational support to junior medical staff, radiographers, and trainees. Contributing to research and development activities to enhance departmental performance and promote evidence-based practices. Participating in the service's on-call rota to provide timely advice and intervention for urgent cases. Championing diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure equitable healthcare outcomes for all patients and a positive work environment for colleagues. Qualifications To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria: Full GMC registration with a licence to practise and inclusion on the Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology (or eligibility within six months of the interview date). Fellowship or an equivalent qualification in Nuclear Medicine Radiology (or significant experience in Nuclear Medicine imaging and therapy). Proven expertise in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine procedures such as PET/CT, tumour staging, molecular imaging, and radionuclide therapies. Up-to-date training and knowledge of IR(ME)R guidelines and other relevant NHS protocols. Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team. Dedication to high standards of patient care, professional ethics, and quality improvement initiatives. A commitment to fostering an inclusive work culture, respecting diverse experiences and perspectives. Evidence of continuing professional development and active involvement in relevant clinical audits, research, and teaching activities. An ARSAC licence, or eligibility for one, in accordance with the required criteria. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine imaging sessions. Review, interpret, and report clinical imaging results with accuracy and attention to detail. Participate in daily interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to case discussions and patient pathways. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to trainees and junior staff to help them advance their skills and knowledge. Communicate effectively with patients and their families, ensuring clarity and empathy during consultations and care planning. Collaborate with other NHS professionals to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes. Support the department in meeting key performance indicators whilst driving forward service improvements. Address and resolve technical issues or challenges during imaging examinations. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and share accountability for risk management processes within the department.
