Overview
We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Quality Assurance and Health & Safety function within the Science, Research & Innovation group. This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be predominantly based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, with occasional travel to our office in Canary Wharf, London. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites. We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. The Science, Research and Innovation Group delivers public health impact, world-leading research innovation, and a unique proposition via an ambitious Science Strategy which will balance innovation against sustainability and affordability. It is divided into 6 sub-Groups, Innovation Accelerator, Clinical Investigations and Trials, Research and Development, Standards Lifecycle, Control Testing and Quality Assurance and Health & Safety.
Role responsibilities
* This role will ensure that the Agency meets the requirements of Health and Safety legislation and corporate Health and Safety strategy and arrangements through the implementation of the corporate Health and Safety Policy, Procedures and Agency Health and Safety Action Plan, and provide support for staff using H&S software systems.
* Participate as necessary in emergency and unplanned events. Participate in safety groups/meetings and investigate accidents and incidents as required.
* Ensure involvement at the planning stage of any refurbishment or project work. Attend pre-contract meetings, progress meetings with Property Services' project supervisors, contractors and other relevant meetings as required.
* Provide support and advice to all staff and management on all matters relating to Health and Safety Risk Management and legal compliance.
* Provide training and support for inductions, DSE, Manual Handling, Risk Assessment, Laboratory Safety along with any other identified training needs.
* Contribute to the system of auditing and seeking assurance of health and safety in accordance with corporate Agency policies and procedures and the Agency Health and Safety action plan.

Benefits and salary
Salary: £44,825 plus £12,985 towards a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Benefits include:
* Annual Leave: 25 days on entry, rising to 30 with service, plus 8 bank holidays; pro-rata for part-time.
* Priviledge Leave: 1 day.
* Hours of Work: 37 hours per week for full-time staff, pro-rata for part-time.
* Occupational Sick Pay: One month full pay/one month half pay on entry, rising with service.
