Overall Purpose of the Job
The role supports undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in public health across the on‑campus BSc Public Health and both on‑campus and online MPH programmes. The postholder will contribute to pedagogical development, deliver teaching in various formats, and undertake scholarly activity that enhances teaching quality and aligns with divisional research priorities.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties
Scholarly Activity
* Produce high quality teaching in public health
* Contribute to pedagogical innovation in the public health discipline
* Lead on co‑production of reports, protocols and presentations for teaching planning and delivery
Teaching and Curriculum Development
* Lead and develop academic content and course materials, ensure updates to course unit outlines, and deliver teaching (face‑to‑face and online) in lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals as required
* Create, mark and provide feedback for assessments using recognised pedagogical practice and in line with University of Manchester academic practice
* Supervise dissertations and student projects.
* Provide pastoral and academic advising support to students.
Management
* Undertake leadership of course units and other student‑facing roles
* Manage teaching assistants where appropriate
* Work collaboratively with programme directors, education leads and other lecturers
Training
* Identify personal and team training needs, participate in relevant training events, and support continuous improvement in teaching delivery.
Person Specification
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* A Masters degree and/or PhD (or equivalent), and substantial experience in academic public health teaching
* Strong teaching skills using online, face‑to‑face and blended approaches.
* Practical experience in public health across settings such as community, institutional and education
* Ability to design innovative teaching and learning solutions at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
* Excellent communication, organisation, and time‑management skills, with ability to work independently and within teams.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
Desirable Knowledge, Skills And Experience
* Experience in global or planetary health, commercial determinants of health, or health protection.
* Interest in promoting the discipline publicly.
