Salary: £57,000 to £72,100 (depending on experience)

About Us
Caterpillar Marine Power UK Ltd is located on the outskirts of Wimborne in the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District. With approximately 130 members of staff and a history spanning over 50 years, we manufacture marine propulsion and auxiliary engines under the Cat® and Perkins Marine® brands. Our site produces Genset packages ranging from 1.5 L to 7.1 L and 7.1 L propulsion engines, employing experienced designers, engineers and technicians.
Job Summary
We seek a dynamic and driven leader to elevate the Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role you will streamline the entire manufacturing process, implement efficiency improvements, leverage new technology, and lead a team of experienced technicians and engineers to deliver excellence.
General Responsibilities
* Training and developing teams to achieve business objectives and support plant operating functions
* Coordinating tool design, assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, and release processes
* Coordinating capital projects for process enhancement and customer satisfaction, conducting research and ensuring proper approvals
* Coordinating the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide efficient and economical manufacture of quality parts
Knowledge And Experience
Lean Manufacturing
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophy, principles, and implementation approaches
* Ability to integrate and implement lean into existing production and management processes
* Considerations for work‑cell design and effectiveness monitoring
* Solutions for key technical and people problems during lean transformation
* Selecting and utilizing tools, techniques, and measurements for lean assessment
* Benchmarking and measuring lean effectiveness
Problem Solving
* Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational problems
* Identifying and documenting specific problems and resolution alternatives
* Examining problems from stakeholder perspectives
* Developing alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information
* Analyzing risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtaining decision on resolution
* Using fact‑finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems
Manufacturing Processes
* Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies, and processes
* Executing, planning, managing, and monitoring the entire manufacturing process
* Assessing associated phases, activities, deliverables, and processes
* Documenting relevant standards, policies, and practices
* Researching new technologies to integrate into existing manufacturing process
* Explaining tools, techniques, and documents used for process monitoring and control
* Managing test cells and associated processes including calibration and control systems
Capacity Planning & Management
* Knowledge of tools, approaches, and practices for determining production demand and managing resources
* Knowledge of capacity‑related measurements and tools
* Identifying common capacity constraints and trends
* Locating internal and external resources for capacity planning and management
Performance Management
* Knowledge of successful performance management techniques
* Applying organization performance management system, practices, and tools
* Demonstrating understanding of performance management concepts
* Describing organization's performance management process
* Explaining core performance factors and ratings
* Participating in own performance review or performance checkpoint session
Decision Making and Critical Thinking
* Knowledge of decision‑making process and associated tools and techniques
* Applying critical thinking techniques in decision‑making processes
* Identifying, obtaining, and organizing relevant data and ideas
* Documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes
* Recognizing, clarifying, and prioritizing concerns
* Assessing risks, benefits, and alternatives
What You Must Have
* Experience leading a Manufacturing Engineering team
* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
* Excellent safety, quality, and performance record
* Excellent communication skills
Top Candidates May Have
* Engineering council accreditation (IEng, CEng, etc.)
* SAP ERP operating system knowledge
* 5–10 years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering team
* Knowledge of diesel engines and generators
* Knowledge of hybrid/battery technology and electrification
