About the position: The purpose of the Customs Clearance Operator is to action all Customs clearances at the Dover site. You will be responsible for calculating and processing customs clearances including duties and taxes to be paid. You will be required to enter details onto specialised customs software which may include CDS, CNS, Destin8 and CFSP, Pentant and ASM Sequioa. You will be responsible for issuing the correct documents on behalf of the customer to ensure that customs are cleared in a timely and efficient manner allowing shipments to continue on their journey. A key part of this role is the liaison with customs officials, subcontractors and customers that will be required to process shipments and complete documentation. This job also requires you to liaise with officials in various agencies to ensure goods are cleared through customs or quarantine. The Customs Clearance Operator will also be expected to have and continue to build a good understanding of all relevant customs related laws and regulations. You will be expected to maintain your understanding and keep up-to-date with changes as they occur, so as to be able to advise customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other customs related matters. Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include: Effectively, efficiently and accurately process primarily, but not exclusively, Road Freight customs clearances for all customers within the guidelines of all relevant laws and regulations. Work closely with existing customers to maintain service levels. Liaise with all customers, suppliers, government agencies, freight forwarders, importers, exporters et al as required to prepare and process primarily, but not exclusively, Road Freight customs clearances for Hellmann UK Arrange Import clearances in to Bond & removal from Bond for Road Freight, Sea Freight & Air Freight if required. Process clearances with the use of specific custom’s systems to complete all Custom’s transactions. Destin8 & CNS, CDS, ASM Sequoia. Liaise with Hellmann operational staff and the Hellmann sales team for day to day customs enquiries. Complete appropriate customs declarations correctly and in a timely manner, with correct values, declarations and HS codes. Arrange ad-hoc Customs shipments for Hellmann Partners and complete Customs declarations to be sent to Partners. Interface with HMRC regarding compliance issues as required. Keep up to date on Customs Clearance legislation, laws and regulations Attend relevant seminars and training courses to ensure the maintenance of their understanding of Customs related legislation and requirements. Provide out of hours support for customs clearance requirements as and when required. About you: The ideal candidate will be educated in Maths and English (oral and written) to GCSE, Standard Grade or equivalent; grade A-C and be able to demonstrate highly competent computer skills in all areas of Microsoft office.
