Teaching Assistant - SEMH Provision Location: Wigan Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm Pay: £95-£110 per day Start Date: January About the Role We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Worker to join a fantastic SEMH provision in Wigan. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with secondary-aged students who have complex emotional and behavioural needs, many of whom are on EHCPs and may be disengaged from mainstream education. You will work 1:1 with pupils, supporting their learning, emotional regulation, and social development in a safe and nurturing environment. The role requires patience, resilience, and the ability to stay calm when managing challenging behaviour, including both verbal and physical aggression. Key Responsibilities Provide classroom support across core subjects Work 1:1 with students to deliver tailored support Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs Encourage participation, focus, and confidence in lessons Assist the class teacher with planning, resources, and routines Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive school environment Support pupils with emotional regulation and challenging behaviours Who We're Looking For Experience supporting children or young people (school, tutoring, youth work, care, coaching all welcome) Proactive, patient, and adaptable approach Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff Strong communication and teamwork skills Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner Teaching Assistant experience is beneficial but not essential.
