Join to apply for the Senior Design Engineer (Process) role at Severn Trent.
Location: Raynesway (Derby). This role sits in our expanding major projects and bioresources waste treatment design team. Our design team uses technical skills to shape wastewater strategies, providing expert advice to lead projects from feasibility to detailed design to support Severn Trent goals.
We search for someone who will work with stakeholders, consultants and contractors to protect and enhance the quality of waste treatment assets and rivers, interrogate and improve data systems, undertake investigations, and prepare outline designs to ensure the best evidence for sound decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Sewage treatment assets: understand existing assets, complete risk assessments, undertake outline designs for new assets to meet business needs and conduct short- to long-term complex investigations
* Develop strategies to enhance existing assets and inform Price Review regulatory submissions; collaborate across the business to build river quality, sustainability and net zero carbon plans, influencing investment approaches
* Carry out self-led research on emerging technologies to define new innovative treatment options and collaborate to promote new strategies
* Promote the ongoing waste treatment capital maintenance programme with a robust evidence-based understanding of how sites operate to maintain final effluent quality
* Provide tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain availability and quality of waste treatment services
* Ensure Health and Safety is built into the lifecycle of the design
* Understand and review potential delivery and operational risks (e.g., H&S, environmental, commissioning) through the design process
What You’ll Bring
* Degree qualified (desirable) and active member of an engineering Institution or working toward incorporated or chartered status; water industry background is beneficial but not essential; engineering discipline required
* Excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills; ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people
* Forward-thinking with the ability to anticipate challenges and respond to change in a rapidly evolving environment
* Full UK driving licence required
