This is a 6 months fixed term, full time opportunity for an Information Governance Support Officer based in Twickenham. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance and Policy, this role is central to ensuring Achieving for Children maintains compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018. The post holder will be the first point of contact for public enquiries relating to both Freedom of Information requests and Data Subject Requests under the GDPR, requiring the coordination and professional processing of all FOI requests. A significant part of the scope includes processing DSRs, which involves the redaction of information and the preparation of reports for the public, alongside maintaining effective systems for recording and controlling all statutory requests received under the GDPR, DPA, and Freedom of Information Act. Candidates must possess knowledge and understanding of this relevant legislation and demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, proven analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work flexibly and independently with limited oversight, driven by a passion to deliver excellent outcomes for children.
The Business Services Directorate works across all of Achieving for Children’s Operational Areas and includes the following business units: Finance and Intelligence; Commissioning and Business Development; Strategy and Transformation; and Workforce Development. The Information Governance Team sits in the Strategy and Transformation Team and manages all activity relating to the implementation of and compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018. The team works with children services colleagues to ensure that Achieving for Children is compliant with legislation, including the provision of data protection advice and guidance, management of data security incidents, developing and monitoring staff IG training, information governance policies and procedures ensuring implementation and compliance. The IG team also has responsibility for providing information for freedom of information and data subject requests.
Responsibilities
* Coordinating and processing Freedom of Information requests ensuring that they are managed and responded to in a professional manner and in line with all legal requirements.
* Provide support, advice, clarification and assistance to staff within AfC in relation to FOI requests.
* Processing data subject requests under the General Data Protection Regulations including the redaction of information and preparation of reports for the public.
* Supporting the Senior Information Governance Officer in providing advice and training and designing and implementing policies and processes to ensure that Achieving for Children complies with the General Data Protection Regulations, Data Protection Act 2018 and, Freedom of Information/Environmental Regulations Legislation.
* Maintaining an effective system for recording, controlling and coordinating all requests for information received by Achieving for Children under the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Data Protection Act.
Qualifications
* Experience of working in Children’s Service environment
* Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation e.g. the Data Protection Act 2018, General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Freedom of Information.
* Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality and information governance and security principles
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing including the ability to explain specialist/complex issues to a wide range of individuals.
* The ability to foster good working relationships with a range of colleagues both internally and externally
