Overview
We are recruiting for full and part time permanent relief Emergency Call Handlers to work within our West of Scotland Ambulance Control Centre in Cardonald, Glasgow. If you’ve been in an emergency, you’ll know that the 999 call is answered promptly and professionally. Our Emergency Call Handlers are critical in allowing us to provide life-saving advice and assistance to callers. They’re the first point of contact for the public, and they work to prioritise each call, provide effective life support, first aid and medical advice where necessary and liaise with ambulance crews on route to the emergency, also dealing with Police and other emergency services.
Responsibilities
* Provide life-saving advice and assistance to callers.
* Prioritise each call and provide effective life support and first aid where necessary.
* Liaise with ambulance crews on route to emergencies and coordinate with Police and other emergency services as required.
Requirements
* Typing ability: minimum 30 wpm with 90% accuracy (applicants not currently working in the ACCs will be required to take a typing assessment).
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and with minimal supervision.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise and make quick decisions, often under great pressure.
* Ideally, experience working with the public, in an ACC, healthcare setting, contact centre, or on a face-to-face basis.
Training and Working Pattern
If you have what it takes, you’ll receive comprehensive training. You will attend an in-house training programme, which may require travel for 2 weeks of training, after which you will need to be available full time for up to 10 weeks to become a certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher. Working hours for these posts will be full time and part time relief, including bank holidays, weekends, and unsocial hours. Start times can be from 6am to 10pm, so the ability to travel at all hours is required.
