The Role

We are looking for a motivated and caring Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker to join Ward 29 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Our 24‑beded urology ward provides high‑quality care to patients with a range of urological conditions. In this role, you will support the nursing team with delivering patient care, assisting with daily activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring patients are always treated with dignity and respect. Previous care experience is desirable, along with good communication skills and a compassionate approach.


Duration, Location and Working Pattern

* Location: Royal Alexandra Hospital
* Permanent Contract
* Full‑time, 36 hours per week
* Shift pattern: days, nights and weekends


Key Responsibilities

* Assist with nursing care under the supervision of a trained nurse, including reception, admission, transfer, and discharge.
* Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required, including fluid and nutritional intake.
* Observe and report any change in patient condition to the nurse in charge.
* Assist patients who cannot self‑care with personal hygiene and dressing, complying with manual handling procedures.
* Carry out minor investigatory procedures (urinalysis, faecal occult blood tests, urine collections) and report findings.
* Maintain accurate patient documentation (fluid charts, Waterlow charts, etc.) and file documents appropriately.
* Clean and tidy clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards (excluding controlled drug cabinets); report defects and concerns.
* Maintain stocks of central and clinical supplies.
* Safeguard patient personal belongings as per policy.
* Comply with Health & Safety legislation and policies (COSHH, fire, infection control, manual handling).


Qualifications, Training and Experience

* No formal qualification required.
* Good standard of education.
* Good verbal communication skills.
* Good team‑working attitude.
* Basic IT skills advantageous.
