About the Role
As a Senior Animal Welfare Officer, you will play apivotal frontline management role in ensuring the highest standardsof animal welfare compliance within a busy food manufacturingsetting. Leading a team of Animal Welfare Officers, you willoversee welfare operations, ensuring adherence to legalrequirements and industry standards such as those set by the FoodStandards Agency (FSA) and British Retail Consortium (BRC). Thisrole is critical in maintaining a culture of compliance, continuousimprovement, and animal welfare excellence.
KeyResponsibilities
* Manage and support three Animal Welfare Officers toensure compliance with animal welfare regulations andstandards.
* Develop and maintain workingpractices and procedures aligned with Council Regulations and UKstatutory requirements.
* Lead training andcompetence assessments for slaughterhouse personnel on animalwelfare practices.
* Maintain accurate recordsof welfare checks, incidents, and corrective actions using bothwritten and computerised systems.
* Prepare andpresent regular KPI reports; collaborate with site teams, AWOs, andcompliance heads to address welfare issues.
* Participate in internal and external audits andinvestigate welfare incidents, implementing corrective andpreventative measures.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who has leadershipexperience or a willingness to step up into a leadership role witha pragmatic approach to balancing welfare compliance withoperational realities and with proven experience in animal welfarewithin slaughterhouses or related environments, ideally with someregulatory or veterinary exposure. You will have a strongunderstanding of slaughtering processes, poultry welfare, andrelevant legislation, including the Welfare of Animals at the Timeof Killing (WATOK) regulations.

* Ability to produce clear, accuratereports and maintain detailed records
* Problem-solving skills with a focus on complianceenforcement and continuous improvement
The role is based at our site UKPoultry site in Sandycroft where a typical working day will be08:00 - 16:30 with occasional need for flexibility.
