Robert Gordon's College is seeking a full-time Assistant Head of Department in our Physical Education team to support learning in a vibrant department. The college offers a leading 3-18 PE and Sports Curriculum and Co-curricular programme. The position is available from August 2025.
The PE Department comprises 14 staff members, including the Head of PE, an Assistant Head, and a Director of Sport, along with 5 full-time coaches, 4 swimming instructors, and ad-hoc coaches, all contributing to both the core curriculum and co-curricular activities.
PE and Sport are integral to school life, with facilities at Schoolhill and a 39-acre sports ground at Countesswells.
The successful candidate will create a supportive environment encouraging pupils' development in PE and Sport across all ages, teach throughout the 3-18 curriculum, and participate in co-curricular activities, including Saturday sports.
The role involves:
1. Teaching PE from Nursery to S6, including certificated courses;
2. Supporting pupils’ learning and development;
3. Implementing national guidelines;
4. Leading certificated courses like National 5 and Higher PE;
5. Engaging in co-curricular activities and Saturday sports;
6. Maintaining records of pupil performance;
7. Parent communication;
8. Monitoring and tracking student progress;
9. Supporting departmental organization and contributing to the wider school community.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Liaison between Junior and Senior Schools;
2. Coordinating PE courses and assessments;
3. Supporting Learning in the Department;
4. Managing curriculum and facilities rotation;
5. Updating schemes of work and departmental handbooks;
6. Assessment administration and reporting;
7. Parental engagement;
8. Maintaining departmental tracking systems;
9. Resource development;
10. Health and safety compliance;
11. Mentoring student teachers;
12. Conducting professional reviews;
13. Organizing curricular excursions.
