Job title: Admissions Officer

Salary: B1 £26,403 - £ 28,142 (pro rata £13,201 - £14,071)

Hours: 18.5

Contract: Permanent

About you

As an Admissions Officer, you will bring to the role:

1. good communication skills in dealing with a wide range of people
2. strong data entry skills, including attention to detail to produce accurate and up to date records within strict deadlines
3. ability to work independently and use your own initiative to meet deadlines
4. excellent IT skills including Word and Excel
5. ability to deal sensitively with stressful and difficult situations

About the role

You’ll be a key team member who works as part of the wider admissions team to secure school place offers for children and young people in Leeds.

The role supports all parts of the admission process, from the 10,000 in-year transfer applications for children who need to move schools each year to the peak work times when the team allocate around 20,000 reception and year 7 places for September. This role is integral to our team, and you will be one of 9 officer who work together under the School Admissions Code 2021 to meet strict legal deadlines and ensure children can access education.

Job Description

Job purpose

The role is integral in the team and supports the administration of the normal round and in-year transfer processes. This role is focussed on data entry, administrative duties and speaking to parents and schools to give advice on the school admissions processes.

Responsibilities

11. Administering all types of admissions processes and identifying and supporting process improvements.
12. Day to day responsibility for dealing with queries from parents, school and other professionals.
13. Advising on school admissions process both in writing and by phone
14. Maintaining all records in a timely, accurate and effective way.
15. Attending face to face events to provide admissions advice and information when required
16. The duties outlined are not meant as an exhaustive list and will also comprise any other duties within the spirit of the post commensurate with the job evaluation outcome for this post.

Qualifications – demonstrating ability in literacy and numeracy or equivalent knowledge.

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

40. Desirable requirements It is desirable that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates are not required to meet all the desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between candidates.
41. Previous experience in an Admissions or education environment.
42. Skills in written communication e.g. effective letter writing.
43. Working knowledge of synergy admissions system.
