Overview
The Recycling Worker plays a vital role in the sustainable management of waste materials. In this role you will support the efficient and safe dismantling, sorting, and processing of end-of-life telecom equipment for reuse, recycling, or responsible disposal. This position also, involves adhering to strict environmental, health & safety, and data handling protocols to ensure compliance and sustainability standards are maintained.
Duties
1. Identify components suitable for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
2. Manually dismantle telecom devices, safely removing batteries, trays, circuit boards, and plastics.
3. Sort materials by category (e.g., metals, plastics, PCBs, batteries).
4. Follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous components (e.g., lithium-ion batteries).
5. Adhere strictly to PPE, ESD safety protocols, and health & safety guidelines.
6. Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free workstation in line with 5S standards.
7. Use basic hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, cutters) with confidence and care.
8. Handle telecom equipment with appropriate care based on condition and sensitivity.
9. Label recycling bins and materials clearly and consistently.
10. Use handheld scanners and barcode systems for item tracking.
11. Proficient use of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or similar software.
12. Update system records based on testing, grading results, and accessory inclusion.
13. Communicate effectively with warehouse, refurbishment, and logistics teams.
14. Follow company procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills
15. Basic IT and data entry proficiency.
16. Familiarity with telecom equipment and refurbishment workflows.
17. Understanding of ESD safety and handling procedures for sensitive electronics.
18. Experience in a recycling, warehouse, or production environment preferred.
19. Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks as required, ensuring proper techniques are used to prevent injury.
20. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Working Hours and pay
21. Monday to Thursday, 8.00-17.00. Hourly rate is £12.21.
