The Visitor Economy is worth over £600 million to Calderdale and, in realising our Vision 2034, Calderdale is harnessing its ambition as a must-see Visitor Destination. Calderdale is a place that offers something locally distinct and creative and demonstrates resilience, reinvention, kindness and inclusivity.
We are recruiting a Tourism & Heritage Assistant to support the delivery of Calderdale’s Market Food Tours and other associated tours and income-generating activities, alongside the team of volunteers/colleagues from the Tourism Team.
The Calderdale Market Food Tours are a collaborative initiative between Visit Calderdale, Calderdale Markets team and local market traders, with the objectives of:
* Raising awareness of the market offer and bringing more people into the market;
* Creating more income opportunities for market traders and for Calderdale Council.
The Halifax Borough Market Food Tour currently runs one Friday and one Saturday per month, with opportunities to run more tours in other market locations in the future. Tours last over two hours and cover the market’s rich history, local and international foods, and stories from market traders. The tours have been running since December 2024 and have proven very popular, regularly selling out on weekends.
We are recruiting this exciting position to support the delivery of the Market Food Tours, alongside other potential income-generating activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading or supporting guided tour activities and in working with volunteers. They will demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills and have experience in a customer-facing role.
Closing Date: Sunday 5th October 2025
Interview Date: Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th October. We may utilise digital interview methods.
