Offer description

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Do you care about the quality of Scotland’s water?

At Scottish Water, we’re always thinking about how we can continue to deliver the fresh, clean water that Scotland relies on – both now and in the future.

Join us as a Senior Service Planner and help transform how we deliver high-quality water, make smarter investment choices that support a flourishing Scotland by ensuring our asset base is resilient, efficient, and aligned with regulatory expectations.

About the Role

You’ll be part of the TCP Team which cover Treated Water Storage, Network Chemical Dosing, Chlorine Contact Tanks and Water Pumping Stations. Together, we play a crucial role in developing complex maintenance, refurbishment, and replacement projects and programmes at Water Networks sites across Scotland to ensure the continued supply of high-quality drinking water and maximise the life of our existing assets. The role will focus on Treated Water Storage assets, operating within and developing the Scottish Water Management Approach for this type of asset. We’ve over 1200 of these assets and they help us maintain water supplies to our customers and need to be inspected and maintained to ensure they continue to provide great quality Scottish Water.

You will oversee the management of inspection and maintenance programmes for Treated Water Storage Points and review asset replacement or rationalisation requests. You’ll direct model requirements to understand and develop the asset base future requirements. Maintaining these models and utilising them to run different operating scenarios to inform plans. You’ll need the ability to challenge and enthusiastically work with others to develop the direction for future assets and shape the TWS portfolio. For significant investment, you’ll support Project Managers developing Project Investment Appraisals. You’ll work with others to develop deterioration modelling to assist in investment planning and improving our understanding of the assets.

A key part will also be managing our asset information and data to ensure that we can accurately and consistently report to internal customers, regulators and stakeholders including the Drinking Water Quality Regulator. Our service planners will assist you in data management and insights. You’ll utilize Copperleaf, Maximo and Unifier to understand, prioritise and promote asset requirements.

You’ll have the autonomy to work creatively and flexibly within a collaborative and supportive team environment, shaping the future of some of Scotland’s most critical national infrastructure.

What you'll need

Ideally you will have some experience of working in asset/strategic planning or involvement with engineering projects. If that is in the field of water or treated water storage, even better.

You’ll have some experience of working on the early stages of asset engineering projects, with a good understanding of root cause analysis and feasibility. A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in an engineering / scientific and/or asset planning background are essential.

We’ve got big plans, and don’t have time to do one thing at a time, so you’ll need to be able to work across multiple projects at different stages in their lifecycle, and often demanding timescales.

You’ll be computer literate, with excellent analytical skills, and experience using Excel and Power BI. Experience with corporate systems including Maximo, Copperleaf, GIS, Open Enterprise and P3M would also be desirable.

Verbal and written communication skills are very important. You’ll know how to discuss and collaborate on sometimes complex technical risks and issues with various stakeholders, particularly our operational teams, and present your ideas and plans with confidence.

Character is important to us. At Scottish Water we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring – and you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance at your interview.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £44,030. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £55,000.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 2nd of September 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
