Job summary

Join our team as a Security & Violence Reduction Managerand play an important role in protecting people, assets, and information across our organisation. In this dynamic and rewarding position, you will support security risk management, incident investigation, and the implementation of policies that help maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Working as part of a dedicated security team, you will collaborate with key stakeholders to support service improvements, contribute to training initiatives, and provide informed advice on security and violence reduction practices.

In this role, you will be responsible for the operational management of the security team, coordinating day-to-day activities, ensuring effective deployment, and maintaining consistent, high-quality service delivery.

You will work closely with team members to maintain standards, support development, and ensure a professional, responsive security presence across all areas.

You must have the Right to Work in the UK in order to be successfully appointed to this role. Please note, this role does not meet the required eligibility criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa and therefore the Trust is unable to offer sponsorship for this particular role.

Main duties of the job

The Security & Violence Reduction Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment that supports effective patient care. The role involves leading and managing the security team, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring a professional, visible presence across all sites. Key duties include responding to and managing security incidents, supporting de-escalation of violence and aggression, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

The post holder will analyse incident data, CCTV, and trends to identify risks and develop effective solutions, contributing to continuous improvement in security and violence-reduction practices. They will communicate and collaborate with staff, patients, and external partners such as police, while promoting a positive reporting culture and supporting affected staff.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, supporting audits and governance processes, contributing to policy development, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and managing security resources and systems. The role also requires strong organisational skills to plan workloads, coordinate rotas, support training, and assist in emergency and high-risk planning, while working independently and exercising sound professional judgement.

Qualifications

Essential

1. Level 3-5 qualification or equivalent in security/risk/policing/related field
2. CPD evidence
3. Conflict resolution / de escalation training
4. Safeguarding training

Desirable

5. SIA Licence (Door Supervisor/Security Guarding)
6. BTEC/IQ Level 4-5 or ASIS security management certification
7. NEBOSH/IOSH H&S qualifications
8. NHS VPR or legacy NHS Protect courses
9. ILM Level 3/5 leadership qualification

Knowledge

Essential

10. Strong understanding of security operations in healthcare or similarly complex environments (., access control, CCTV, physical security measures).
11. Detailed knowledge of NHS Violence Prevention & Reduction (VPR) Standards and associated national guidance
12. Understanding of conflict management, de escalation principles, and behaviour related risk indicators.
13. Knowledge of incident reporting systems (., InPhase) and information governance requirements for handling sensitive data
14. Familiarity with criminal justice processes, including when incidents meet thresholds for police involvement or sanctions
15. Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities relating to both staff and vulnerable individuals
16. Understanding of Trust security policies, emergency response protocols, and relevant legislation (., Protect Duty/Martyn's Law)

17. Experience in NHS security or VPR roles; Protect Duty knowledge; ; multi-agency working

Skills

Essential

18. Ability to analyse complex incident information, CCTV, and witness accounts to identify risks, patterns, and learning.
19. Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage compassionately with staff who have experienced violence or distress.
20. Skilled in building collaborative relationships across clinical, estates, police, and operational teams.
21. Competent in the use of digital security systems, incident databases, and report preparation tools
22. Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound operational recommendations in fast-moving situations
23. Ability to organise and prioritise workloads, plan security activities, and support rota or deployment decisions
24. Capable of supporting policy implementation and service improvements related to security and violence reduction

Experience

Essential

25. Experience supporting or delivering security operations, ideally in a healthcare or public facing environment
26. Experience reviewing violence/ aggression incidents and providing support to affected staff.
27. Experience liaising with police or external agencies during incident reviews or investigations
28. Previous involvement in data analysis, audit activity, or providing reports for governance meetings
29. Experience working in multidisciplinary settings, coordinating responses to safety-critical events
30. Experience supporting staff development, training, or day-to-day task coordination
