Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (depending on experience)
Are you a dynamic and inspiring Head of English ready to lead a thriving department in Reading? We are seeking a committed and ambitious leader to drive excellence in English teaching and learning across Key Stages 4 and 5 from January 2026.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced English Teacher or existing Head of English who is passionate about raising standards, developing curriculum innovation, and nurturing a love of literature and language among students.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the English department, inspiring staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
* Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and development across KS4 and KS5
* Monitor and analyse student progress, implementing effective strategies to raise attainment
* Support and coach colleagues to ensure outstanding classroom practice
* Promote a positive culture of reading, writing, and communication across the school
* Collaborate with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives
Person Specification
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Proven success in teaching English at KS4 and KS5
* Experience of leading or supporting within a department
* Strong understanding of current curriculum and assessment requirements
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
* A passion for English and a genuine commitment to student achievement
