Job Title: Principal Engineer – HVAC (Fixed-Term Contract)

Contract Type: 2-year Fixed Term Contract
Salary: Up to £67,300 (depending on skills and experience)
About the Role
Our client is seeking a Principal HVAC Engineer to join a key engineering programme supporting the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems. This is a fixed-term role within a highly collaborative, fast-paced project team responsible for chilled water and HVAC system solutions for advanced marine platforms.
You’ll bring deep technical expertise in fluid systems to solve challenging engineering problems, lead stakeholder engagement, and ensure that system specifications, designs, and outputs meet stringent technical and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct complex technical analysis and prepare reports with recommendations to resolve engineering issues.
* Develop and assess design specifications, ensuring they meet all regulatory and technical requirements.
* Act as a key point of contact for customers and suppliers on HVAC-related technical matters.
* Provide regular progress reports and ensure delivery of assigned work within scope and budget.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and procedures.
* Mentor and support the development of junior team members through performance reviews and training plans.
* Provide technical expertise and insight to the senior management team as needed.
Required Skills and Experience
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Marine Mechanical Engineering or Fluid Systems.
* Strong knowledge and experience in chilled water and refrigeration system design.
* Proven ability to engage and manage large stakeholder groups and suppliers.
* Experience in delivering engineering outputs in a high-complexity environment.
* Broader mechanical systems experience, particularly HVAC or Building Services.
* Familiarity with naval ship design, build, integration, or support.
* Understanding of control systems related to HVAC/chilled water systems.
* Chartered Engineer status or working toward professional registration is preferred.

You’ll be joining the Canada HVAC & Chilled Water Systems team, responsible for developing and integrating mechanical systems into next-generation naval platforms. The team plays a crucial role in delivering technical solutions across a wide stakeholder network, including internal departments, suppliers, and end users.
