We are one of Scotland's leading suppliers to agricultural, industrial and commercial industries for steel fabrication, engineering, retails and machinery sales and servicing. We currently operate from 2 sites in Duns and Berwick upon Tweed and, due to continued expansion, we are currently recruiting a workshop foreman to work from our Duns site.
Role Purpose
The Workshop Foreman will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fabrication workshop, ensuring production targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and health & safety compliance is upheld. This role requires strong leadership skills, hands-on technical knowledge, and the ability to coordinate workloads effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise fabrication staff, including welders, fabricators, and apprentices.
* Plan, allocate, and monitor workloads to ensure deadlines are met.
* Oversee the fabrication process, ensuring accuracy to engineering drawings and quality specifications.
* Liaise with Management, design team, and other departments to coordinate workflow.
* Ensure adherence to company health & safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.
* Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to team members.
* Conduct quality checks at key stages of production.
* Manage materials and consumables to minimise waste and downtime.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives in production processes.
* Complete production relevant documentation as required by Thorburn Group.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience in a similar supervisory or foreman role within a fabrication, welding, or engineering workshop.
* Strong understanding of fabrication techniques, welding processes, and sheet metal work.
* Ability to read and interpret CAD engineering drawings.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
* Good working knowledge of health & safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
