Deputy Sleep Physiology and Educational Lead
Clinical Responsibilities
Perform holistic assessments of patients' needs, plan, implement, and evaluate care delivery in a hospital setting, focusing on respiratory healthcare. Provide specialist advice to medical staff and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) regarding complex sleep apnoea management. Use and maintain various technologies for physiological measurements, including overnight polysomnography, home oximetry, actigraphy, TcCO monitoring, MSLT, lung function testing, and blood gas analysis. Apply sensors and electrodes for sleep studies, including PSG with EEG, EOG, and EMG, using standard and extended montages. Calibrate signals, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure data quality. Analyze and score physiological events, stage sleep, and discuss findings with Consultants. Produce detailed reports, conduct clinical interviews, and offer treatment plans. Initiate and adjust CPAP or NIV therapy, and communicate with GPs and patients. Manage outpatient clinics, provide lifestyle advice, and monitor treatment efficacy. Maintain professional competencies and support data management and equipment procurement.
Professional Responsibilities
Assist and deputise for the Lead Physiologist/Department Manager. Line manage the team, oversee training, and participate in recruitment. Contribute to procurement decisions, review protocols, and identify service improvements. Ensure policy compliance, lead staff training, and participate in research. Obtain informed consent, document procedures, and lead service initiatives. Stay informed of departmental objectives and strategies.
