Job Title: After School Playworker
Start Date: October 2025
Location: Battle Primary Academy, Cranbury Rd, Reading, RG30 2TD
Hours: 15 hours per week during term time (with the opportunity to work up to 40 hrs per week during holiday clubs if desired). Operational Hours: Monday to Friday, 15:00 – 18:00 for After School Club.
Pay: Up to £12.21 per hour (plus holiday pay)
Contracts Available: Term Time. Holiday clubs run from 08:30 – 17:30, Monday to Friday, based in several locations in Wokingham. Casual contracts are available to cover sickness, holidays, and busier sessions.
Note: This role requires compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Two references are required (one from the most recent employer and one from a childcare setting if applicable). A DBS check will be conducted on your behalf. Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver structured and engaging activities (multi-sports, games, arts and crafts, structured play) that are age-appropriate and encourage maximum participation.
* Follow all Health and Safety protocols and policies, including signing in and out processes.
* Provide refreshments for the children and maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.
* Set up and pack away play spaces, moving furniture and play equipment as needed.
* Keep accurate documentation, including accident and incident forms, up to date.
* Ensure proper sign-in and sign-out procedures for all children in our care.
* Communicate professionally with team members, parents, children, and schools.
* Conduct regular maintenance and safety checks for all equipment and kits.
* Lead health and safety initiatives and provide first aid where necessary.
* Keep all information and documents related to the children confidential and secure.
* Inspire children and colleagues to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Previous experience with after-school provision or similar care settings is desirable but not required.
* Ability to work a 15-hour weekly schedule during term time, with potential additional hours during holiday clubs.
* Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare; compliance with KCSIE.
* Two professional references (one from a recent employer and one from a childcare setting, if applicable).
* A DBS check will be arranged by the employer; please provide any required documentation.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
