Overview
Never has there been a more exciting and challenging time to join the NHS. If you have the desire for a career in NHS leadership, hold a minimum 2:2 degree level qualification (awarded by July 2026) and can apply your passion, curiosity, drive and determination to make a difference, we are interested in you!
The NHS Wales Financial Management Graduate Scheme offers you the opportunity to work across the breadth of the finance function, gaining valuable and varied experiences in areas such as financial management, business partnering and financial planning. The scheme will develop your financial management and leadership skills whilst studying for a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA). It is designed to develop the next generation of finance leaders who will work in complex, challenging environments in partnership with clinicians and other professionals.
Trainees will be supported through formal activities and guided by their Graduate Lead. The level of responsibility and complexity of work will increase over the duration of the programme. This is a fixed-term 3-year post with the possible extension of a further 10 months dependent on meeting certain conditions.
Main duties of the job and structure: if successful, you will be appointed to a finance role in one of our NHS Wales organisations for the duration of the scheme commencing September 2026. For the 2026 cohort, vacancies are anticipated in the North, West and South of Wales. You will rotate through placements in the employing organisation’s finance department to gain experience in NHS finance, with some centrally provided placements in core financial services (accounts payable and payroll) and additional placements in other NHS Wales organisations in year 2 and year 3. You will study for an ACCA qualification over 3 years and are expected to achieve it to graduate from the scheme. You can expect first-class training, mentor support and a generous study package.
