Equality, diversity and inclusion volunteer

Gillingham (Kent)
Forward Leeds
Posted: 24 September
Offer description

Overview

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support. We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.

Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. You may notice the jobs here are branded ‘Humankind’; next year we’ll be fully integrating our recruitment systems but for now they are separate.

Role

Vacancy Name: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Volunteer

Employment Type: Permanent • Hours per Week: 8 • Work Pattern: Monday to Friday

Location: Woodcock Court, Gillingham, Dorset, SP8 4DZ (with travel across Dorset, East and North Dorset).

What you’ll do

* Cofacilitate groups that promote inclusivity and value diversity (e.g., a neurodiversity group or a young people’s group).
* Promote and encourage EDI conversations with service users, volunteers and staff.
* Liaise with service users and staff to gain feedback about EDI to inform decisions and support.
* Research local resources and help build relationships in the community.
* Create and develop resources for use in campaigns and events.
* Support the planning and delivery of events that celebrate diversity and raise awareness.
* Champion inclusive language and practices in communications.

There is flexibility about location, with the ideal base at the Gillingham hub; the role will support events across Dorset.

About the project

Reach Drug and Alcohol Services is the commissioned community drug and alcohol provision for Dorset. It provides support, interventions and treatments for adults and young people, plus family support and campaigns that raise awareness of addiction and celebrate recovery. Reach is delivered in partnership between Waythrough, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and Essential Drug and Alcohol Services. This role is based with the adults service.
