Health Care Assistant (HCA)
Location: York Medical Group
Hours: Variety of hours available
Salary: Based on experience
Job Type: Permanent
Annual Leave: 6 Weeks
What you'll do
As an HCA, you'll be at the frontline of patient care, supporting the wider clinical team and playing a vital role in promoting health, delivering hands-on care, and empowering patients through education and prevention.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Delivering patient-centered HCA services in line with practice protocols
* Performing vital signs checks: BP, pulse, temperature, BMI, blood sugars
* Collecting and preparing pathology samples (e.g. venepuncture, INR, urinalysis)
* Administering vaccines and injections (e.g. B12, flu, pneumonia, shingles)
* Conducting ECGs and supporting chronic disease management
* Providing wound care, stitch removal
* Safeguarding adults and children and responding appropriately to concerns
* Participating in audits and maintaining infection control and stock levels
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Previous HCA Experience
* Confidence in venepuncture (blood taking)
* ECGs
* Ability to work flexibly across our sites, including occasional Saturdays and extended hours
* Strong communication skills and a patient-first approach
Desirable:
* Experience with chronic disease management
* Previous involvement in audits or quality improvement initiatives
