Overview
In the 12-month Mechanical Engineering Placement, you'll gain invaluable skills and experience covering all aspects of engineering from requirements and design analysis to product design, and defining test specifications. You may work across the product development lifecycle, from new product introduction (NPI) to in-service support. We have different roles in this area offering exposure to diverse mechanical engineering activities and projects.
Responsibilities
* Materials and Process team: focus on material data, planning, and executing material test programs for composite materials; manage in-house test campaigns, oversee external suppliers and research partners, develop test procedures and internal capabilities, and conduct fractography and failure analysis of composite structures to support design and analysis validation.
* Hardware Mechanical Design team (Cheltenham): contribute to mechanical engineering across the development of Power Distribution and Control Systems solutions; influence design decisions, material/process selections, and production readiness.
* Mechanical Engineering (Bristol): assist in design, development, and testing of mechatronic systems and components; support integration of electronic control systems with mechanical systems; engage in R&D activities to explore new technologies and methodologies in mechatronics.
Eligibility and Qualifications
* Currently studying an Aerospace, Mechanical Design/Mechanical Analysis/Mechanical Engineering or General Engineering related Bachelor's or integrated Master’s degree.
* On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above.
* Penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement.
* Desired characteristics: able to roll up your sleeves, organized, capable of meeting deadlines, curious to learn, strong verbal and written communication skills, able to take ownership, analytical and problem-solving skills, proficient in Microsoft Office, and able to work as part of a team.

The placement is part of GE Aerospace initiatives, with pathways to graduate roles.
