Overview
St Thomas’ CE Primary School are seeking a compassionate, proactive and skilled SEND Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and nurturing primary school. This role involves working closely with a small group of Key Stage 1 children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You’ll play a vital role in supporting their development particularly in communication and language, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
The purpose of this post is to provide effective support for a child in KS1, as well as covering lunchtime duties.

Salary: LSA - Scale 3 point 5, Midday - Scale 1 point 3 - Approx. pro rata salary LSA £11,828.20 MDA £2,866.07
Hours of Post: Learning Support Assistant 20 hours & Midday Assistant 5 hours
Total 25 hours per week (Term Time Only)
Contract Type: Fixed Term until August 2026

Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored support to children with autism and other SEND profiles, in line with EHCP targets
* Facilitate engaging activities that promote communication, language development, and relationship-building
* Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver high-quality provision
* Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure a safe, structured environment for all pupils
* Contribute to planning, monitoring progress, and adapting strategies to meet individual needs
* Build trusting relationships with children, families, and the wider school team

* Experience supporting children with autism and/or complex SEND needs
* Understanding of EHCPs and how to implement targeted provision
* Strong communication skills and a nurturing, patient approach
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to child protection
* Ability to work flexibly, creatively, and with genuine empathy
