Overview
To train via an apprenticeship of BTEC Level 3 in the principles and practice for pharmacy technicians, to then enrol and register as a GPhC registered pharmacy technician. Technicians will improve patient care through efficient medicines management including drug history taking, medicines reconciliation, patient counselling, one‑stop dispensing, and discharge coordination.
Anticipated start date: 24th November 2025.
Rotation and Training
Rotate throughout the department over a 2‑year period to gain experience required for a Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services and a BTEC Level 3. Attend college to complete underpinning knowledge.
Precedence and Diversity
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, Priority and NHS At Risk staff where recent relevant experience applies.
Core Responsibilities
 * Work under supervision in all areas of the department to learn skills and knowledge.
 * Apply theoretical knowledge to practical skills; complete a portfolio of evidence for competence.
 * Undertake general dispensary duties, complying with SOPs and legal framework.
 * Maintain optimal stock levels and liaise with patients and ward staff.
 * Use the pharmacy computer system efficiently.
 * Participate in departmental meetings regarding procedures and practices.
 * Perform general technical service duties under GMP and legal regulations.
 * Prepare cytotoxic, intravenous, and non‑sterile products in the aseptic suite.
 * Generate accurate medication labels and prepare worksheets.
 * Participate in weekend, bank holiday and late‑night rotations as required.

Working Relationships
Works closely with student tutors, assessors, college tutors and lecturers, pharmacy line managers, and pharmacists. Liaises with ATOs to ensure comprehensive training.
Availability
Must be able to work late nights, weekends, and bank holidays on rota shifts.
