Program Context
The SUB AIT program supports the In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office (PMS 392) under Program Executive Office Attack Submarines (PEO SSN) to achieve optimal submarine operational readiness by providing production support, component repairs and technical support to accomplish repair, maintenance, removal/installation, troubleshooting and associated testing for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) submarine maintenance availabilities. The efforts support restoration and maintenance of the fast attack submarines of the United States Navy.
Responsibilities / Welder Tasks
* Perform structural welding of deck structures, support braces, foundations, or hangers using one of a number of processes such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
* Prepare finished welds by hand grinding or burring to meet visual acceptance standards.
* Set up and operate stud welding equipment as needed onboard submarines, in buildings and in the field.
* Install hot work protection and/or build weld containments for fire prevention.
* Perform firewatch duties during welding operations.
Requirements
* 2+ years' experience performing repair work on nuclear submarines within the trade they are being assigned.
* HS/GED
* Must be US citizen
* Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
Welder Skill Requirements
At least 2 years of experience welding in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building, power plant construction, commercial building construction or bridge construction.
Qualified per Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 with the following essential elements:
* Welder Qualification record verifying tests performed in three positions. Alternatively, the welder tests may be performed in the 6G position (from TP-248) provided the test is performed using a singular weld process. No dual process qualifications will be accepted. The welder qualification test record shall include at least the following information:
* Welder Identification (Full Name at a minimum)
* Date of test
* Qualification Test thickness - test assembly thickness .375" or higher
* Qualification test process (SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW as applicable)
* Qualification test position (2G, 3G, 4G, or 6G)
* Qualification test base material type
* Qualification test filler material type and size
* Qualification test results
* Certifying signature (fabricator, test administrator or quality assurance officer attesting to test conditions and results)
* The welder qualification test shall be performed with an approved Butt weld joint design from MIL-STD 22
* The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-9018-M, 10018M, 10718M, 11018M, 12018M or 14018M for the SMAW process
* The filler material to be used during testing shall be MIL-100S-1, 100S-2, 120S-1, or 140S-2 for the GTAW or GMAW process
* The Qualification Test shall be evaluated IAW with the requirements contained in S9074-A-GIB018/248 (performed IAW T9074-AS-GIB-010/271, (TP 271) evaluated to class 1 requirements of MIL-STD 2035). Qualification tests shall be evaluated visually and by Radiography, ultrasonically, or by bend testing.
* Qualification shall have been maintained by actual use of the welding process quarterly
* Jaeger J-1 or equivalent Vision certification
* Undergo training to self-identify and correct poor workmanship (40-hour course with exam; 80% pass required)
* Trained, qualified to wear respiratory protection devices IAW 29 CFR 1910.134

Additional Information
The likely hourly rate for this position is between $39.56 - $53.52. This is not a guarantee of compensation and could vary based on experience, location, and contractual requirements. Schedule: 40 hours per week. Travel: 50-75%. Telecommuting Options: Onsite. Work Location: USA ME Bath.
