Nixor is proud to be partnering with a leading UK financial services organisation as they build a brand-new Architecture Practice as part of a major, multi-year transformation. The are looking to hire Senior Solution Architects & Lead Solution Architects to join their expanding team. This is a rare opportunity to join at the beginning, helping shape how architecture is done, while working within a well-supported, long-term programme.
The organisation has recently appointed a Head of Architecture who brings a clear and well-defined vision for the function. The goal is to evolve the enterprise estate from monolithic systems to a modern, domain-aligned, microservices architecture, moving from “spaghetti to pizza”, where each domain has clear ownership and structure. Importantly, this isn’t transformation without direction, there is strong alignment at leadership level, a clear roadmap, and a growing architecture community being built around you.
The organisation has already made meaningful progress in building a more balanced technology function. 35% of their architects are women, compared to an industry average of 10%, and they continue to focus on creating an environment where different perspectives are represented and able to influence how technology is shaped.
This organisation operates under a model which means it is not driven by external shareholders. This creates a long-term approach to technology and investment rather than short-term delivery pressure, and greater consistency in direction, projects are far less likely to be chopped, changed, or deprioritised. It allows teams to design and build properly, focusing on sustainable outcomes rather than quick wins. It also provides a more stable environment, with no “hire and fire” culture driven by short-term financial results, and gives you the space to settle into the role, understand the domain, and add value over time.
As a Senior or Lead Solution Architect, you’ll be aligned to a key business domain and take ownership of its architectural direction. You’ll define and evolve domain architecture, including roadmap and design decisions, and lead the transition from legacy systems to cloud-native, microservices-based architectures. You’ll work closely with engineering teams to deliver scalable, resilient solutions, while contributing to architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across the function. You’ll be part of a collaborative architecture community with strong leadership, shared practices, and ongoing support.
We’re looking for proven experience as a Solution Architect within a complex, regulated environment, along with strong experience in cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS. A background in software engineering or hands-on technical roles (e.g. development, platform engineering, DevOps) is highly beneficial, alongside experience modernising legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native architectures. You should have a strong understanding of design patterns, microservices, and distributed systems, and be comfortable engaging both technically and strategically with stakeholders.
This is an opportunity to be part of a major, well-funded transformation from the ground up, shaping architecture within a large enterprise while working in a stable, long-term environment where you can see initiatives through end-to-end. There are also clear opportunities for career progression as the function continues to grow.
If you’d be open to exploring this further or simply having an informal conversation feel free to get in touch.
