Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive, nurturing person to join our committed team at Paradykes. The successful candidate will work closely with the Support for Learning teacher and Senior Leadership Team. The role is varied and involves working with individuals and groups of children, supporting learning experiences, social and emotional development, and adapted curriculum activities. You will also be outside at playtime and lunchtime, supporting the children with their play activities. Building strong, nurturing relationships is key to Paradykes, with you as a positive role model and a calm, consistent, safe adult for our children.
KNOWLEDGE
Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable you to communicate effectively with staff and pupils and provide sensitive support.
You must be familiar with child development and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils. Previous experience in this field is preferred. To be fully competent in the role you may be required to undertake additional training courses (e.g., first aid, calm techniques).
If the post is within a Nursery Environment you must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 3 months of appointment. You must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining them within the first year of registration. Hours of Work: 3x 27.5h and 1x 20h (Fixed Term)
Working Pattern:
20h – To be negotiated with successful candidate
27.5h – Mon to Thurs 8:45 to 3:15 with a 45 minute break; Mon to Fri 8:35 to 12:20 with a 15 minute break
Weeks per year: 39
Please note that it is Midlothian Council policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Salary (minimum actual): Based on 20 hours over 39 weeks per year, £13,508.22 per annum. Based on 27.5 hours over 39 weeks per year, £18,573.81 per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council; the cost will be met by you.
