Type: Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 3:45
All Education and Training provided – Working with children aged 7-19, with a Nursery to KS2 level of cognitive ability. If you have a caring nature and want to be part of a vibrant, empathetic team and school, this role could really appeal to you.
We are looking for a graduate or non-graduate with good instincts for Nursery and early years aged children. This LSA role involves working within personal care with students who are incredibly lively, all from different backgrounds and cultures. An interest in Occupational therapy or Physiotherapy is an advantage but not essential.
This LSA/Nursery Teaching Assistant role will be in a specialist school for children aged 2-19, catering for a range of Autism, Complex Social Needs, and academic ability. The school caters to children whose Autism leads to severe Learning challenges, and some will also have physical disabilities.
Can you make the students’ lives just a little better today, keep them safe, and demonstrate the value of education? You will receive extensive SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA Training.
As an aspiring OT or Speech and Language Therapist, over the course of 10 years of qualification and experience, you will need to identify areas of genuine interest and where your skills need enhancement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Physical work combined with pragmatic approaches to maximize each child's academic progress within their context.
2. Introducing therapies and holistic processes; even small progress is a success.
3. Supporting students with Pathological Demand Avoidance and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
4. Focusing on Early Years and Non-Verbal students, using holistic techniques to gain engagement.
5. Supporting secondary-aged students with levels of learning well below their chronological age.
6. Providing positive engagement to foster a sense of acceptance; employing different approaches when talking therapy is ineffective.
It is vital that you are sincere about your objectives and understand why you want to work in the SEN and mental health sector. Your goal is to provide the best possible foundation for vulnerable students who have experienced trauma and have been let down by adults. These roles are challenging and require months or years to build trust and support with vulnerable learners.
