The John Goldman Centre for Cellular Therapy based at Hammersmith Hospital is a HTA, JACIE and MHRA IMP/ATMP licensed facility that provides highly specialist clinical, technical and scientific services for Bone Marrow transplant patients.
Applications are invited from well-motivated and organised individuals who will be involved in all aspects of GMP clinical processing (including advanced ATMP protocols and cell culture), flow cytometry and other quality testing ,
The Advanced Specialist Scientistwill additionally be the lead in commercially approved ATMP services for the department, introduction of new techniques into the laboratory, quality system development, training, data management, assisting new/on-going clinical trials approval and bringing new therapies into clinical practice.
Applicants must have HCPC registration, minimum of an Masters level qualification with practical experience of GMP ATP manufacture / development or handling. Applicants should have direct experience in this field or in a related area such as Blood Transfusion, Immunology or ATP development under GMP conditions. In order to meet the needs of a high-quality service, the post holder is expected to be flexible in their working arrangements and be able to demonstrate the ability to work consistently under pressure to the highest standards.
Main duties of the job
1. Use and develop specialist skills within the Quality Testing Dept. in order that patient evaluation and product quality testing are carried out appropriately and in a timely manner conducive to good patient management.
2. Use and develop specialist skills within the Processing Dept. in the controlled working environment, clean rooms and associated areas, to maintain regulatory compliance and a safe environment for the processing/ engineering of cell harvests for clinical use.
3. Use and develop specialist skills to lead the receipt and or processing of starting material for Licensed ATMPs, ATMP receipt, storage and release for clinical application.
4. Support the ATMP scientist and JGCCT Director to ensure that the JGCCT is ready to successfully delivery Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Investigational Products (ATMIPs) both within clinical trial and clinical practice setting
5. In carrying out these duties, the post holder will maintain close communication Medical, Nursing and Pharmacy staff attached to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit activities based at Hammersmith Hospital, the Paediatric team based at St Mary’s Hospital and any other relevant departments within Imperial College NHS Trust and outside the Trust.
6. Provide on rotation with the other members of the team, an out of hours service. This will involve occasional weekend and evening work plus the provision of an off-site on-call service.
