Interim Medical Director – UK (Dermatology)
We are supporting a global pharmaceutical organisation to appoint an Interim Medical Director to lead the UK Medical Affairs function on a short-term basis during a period of transition.
This is a highly operational, hands‑on leadership role. The strategy is already defined, the priority is to step in quickly, lead the team, and ensure strong execution and delivery, particularly during an important dermatology product launch phase.
The Role
You will lead the UK Medical Affairs team (5 direct reports; 11 total) with full responsibility for maintaining performance, direction, and output across the function.
A key focus will be supporting a recent product launch, ensuring the MSL team is clearly directed, engaged, and delivering effectively in the field, alongside strong external engagement and evidence generation.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide hands‑on leadership of the Medical Affairs function, ensuring continuity and delivery
* Drive execution of an established strategy
* Lead and support the MSL team through an active launch environment
* Maintain momentum across KEE engagement and scientific exchange
* Oversee data generation and medical activity delivery
* Act as (or be capable of acting as) final medical signatory, ensuring ABPI compliance
* Ensure high‑quality output, strong governance, and operational excellence
* Partner effectively with commercial and market access teams
* Quickly assess team needs and stabilise, motivate, and drive performance
Candidate Profile
* Experienced Medical Director within the pharmaceutical industry (essential)
* Immediately available (or very short notice)
* Strong track record of operational Medical Affairs leadership and delivery
* Launch experience (ideally within dermatology) highly desirable
* Final signatory experience
* Proven ability to lead teams in fast‑paced, delivery‑focused environments
* High emotional intelligence, collaborative style, and excellent communication skills
* Comfortable being visible, decisive, and hands‑on from day one
