We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on two peatlands projects.
1) ¿Enhanced understanding of CarbOn and groundWAter Dynamics in European peatlands and their related ecosystem services (ECO-WADE).¿ You will plan, organise and lead fieldwork on an upland blanket bog in North Wales, and make measurements of greenhouse gas fluxes, water table depths, and water chemistry. This is part of a European project examining how peatland rewetting affects various ecosystem services and functions.
2) ¿Defra Lowland Peat Project 3: the options, feasibility and impact of managing lowland peat for reduced greenhouse gas emissions.¿ You will be involved with a work package focused on drainage ditches, greenhouse gas emissions and water quality. The work will seek to understand how lowland peat land cover (e.g. cropland, grassland, rewetted) and management (e.g. raising water tables) affect water ditch greenhouse gas emissions and, in turn, the relevance of these emissions at the landscape scale. You will work at numerous sites across the UK, including in East Anglia, Somerset, and Lancashire.
The position will involve extensive fieldwork duties, frequently with overnight stays, and you should be comfortable working alone in the field, often in inclement weather. From time to time the candidate will be expected to contribute to other projects (e.g. fieldwork, lab work).
You should have a PhD in peatland ecology, biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology, or related field.
This is a fixed term post. The post is being advertised at 0.1FTE for 12 month then 1FTE for a further 15 months.
